Marketplace update

Reasons for moving
Reasons for leaving your present company may be negative, but should always be balanced by more positive reasons for progressing, as any negativity will reflect badly on your application.

If your main motivation for moving is money, then talk to your current manager first. It’s never an easy subject to broach, but one that they will have faced themselves personally as well. It is also easier than going through the interview process to be offered the role and turn it down because you are offered a pay-rise to stay where you are.
Also, history proves that candidates “bought back” with an improved salary alone are usually back on the market looking for a better position again after a matter of weeks.

Often the most sought after candidates are those progressing well within their present company. Therefore it is good practice to register your details with Placement UK as a “passive” candidate, simply to receive updates on your specific sector marketplace and hear of roles which could be simply too good to miss.

The best time to move to a new company is often, conversely, when you feel most comfortable in your role. If you are not being stretched or have ceased leaning anything new, but there is no room for progression, then you will come across at interview as a strong and dedicated employee who has plenty to offer and simply wishes to progress.

Salary expectations
The marketplace is currently candidate rich, but is still sustaining an average 10-15% augmentation on basic salaries

Packages should be considered and negotiated in their entirety as benefits can be worth more to an individual than the cost to the company.

Developing your career
Placement UK can provide impartial and professional advice, on what direction to take your career within the areas of our specialist knowledge. Simply email contact@placementuk.com with your CV attached, if it is not already held by Placement UK, and a specialist consultant will be pleased to discuss your career development.

Job title is always less important than your actual role. It is well recognised that a Buyer within one company could be called an Allocator in another, or a Buying Controller somewhere else. Career development is about what you learn, not what you are called, so ignore the titles.

Changing your career
It is not usually possible for us to assist with a complete career change, as clients pay us to find candidates with relevant skill-sets, but we can often help to move you towards your goal or suggest ways of obtaining it through other means.
